Once upon a time, in the late 1960s, a group of friends who were passionate about the environment and social justice came together to form the “Food Rescue Society.” They were disturbed by the amount of food waste they saw in their community and felt strongly that there was a better way to deal with surplus food.
In the early days of the organization, they faced many challenges. Food waste was not yet a widely recognized issue, and many people were skeptical of their efforts to rescue discarded food. However, they persevered, and slowly but surely, they began to gain traction.
One day, during a particularly grueling food collection and redistribution effort, one of the volunteers quipped, “No food left unchewed!” as they dug into a particularly delicious meal. The rest of the group laughed, but the phrase stuck.
Over time, “No Food Left Unchewed” became a rallying cry for the Food Rescue Society. It embodied their commitment to reducing food waste and ensuring that every scrap of food was put to good use. It also spoke to their belief that food is a precious resource that should be treated with respect and enjoyed to the fullest.
As the organization grew and expanded, so did the reach of their motto. It became a symbol of hope and determination for people all over the world who were fighting against food waste and hunger. And so, to this day, the Food Rescue Society proudly proclaims, “No Food Left Unchewed since 1968!”
